Choosing an Engagement Ring: A Jeweller's Honest Guide

By Anne Edwards

Choosing an engagement ring can feel overwhelming. As a bench jeweller, my job is to make it feel like a conversation, not a transaction. Here's how I think about it.

Start with the person, not the stone

How do they dress? Do they work with their hands? Do they love a statement, or something understated they'll never take off? The answers shape everything.

Natural or lab-grown?

Both are real diamonds. Lab-grown offers a larger stone for the budget; natural carries a certain romance. I'll show you both, certified, so you can decide with your own eyes.

The setting is where craft shows

A well-made setting protects the stone, sits comfortably, and lasts decades. This is where working directly with the maker really matters.

Come and talk it through — there's never any pressure, only guidance.
